There are many different types of Pilates equipment. Here is a guide to the most common ones. With these Pilates equipment there is no reason why you will not enroll with Pilates Northern Beaches.
The Reformer
The Reformer is a large apparatus with two rails and a spring-loaded carriage that moves up and down on them. It was designed by Joseph Pilates, who used it in his studio in New York City. The Reformer is used for developing strength, flexibility, balance and coordination through the use of various exercises.
The Cadillac
This machine looks like an oversized exercise ball on which you stand while you perform various exercises that develop strength, flexibility and muscle control. It was developed by Romana Kryzanowska in the 1960s and has become very popular among dancers and athletes because it allows them to train without placing undue strain on their joints.
The Wunda Chair
This piece of equipment resembles a chair with a handlebar at its back so that you can sit in it while performing movements similar to those done on the Reformer or Cadillac but with more freedom of movement because your legs are not constrained by the rails of these machines.
Pilates is a form of exercise that is suitable for all ages, genders and fitness levels. It is often used as a way of rehabilitating people who have suffered from injuries, but it can also be used to improve balance and muscle tone.
The equipment required for Pilates exercises is not very expensive, but there are several pieces that you may need to purchase, depending on your personal preference.
The Pilate’s mat – This is the most basic piece of equipment that you will need when performing Pilates exercises. The mat provides a soft surface on which to perform the movements without damaging your joints or muscles. The mat can be purchased at many sporting goods stores or online stores such as Amazon.com or eBay.com.
The Pilate’s ball – This is another piece of equipment that is commonly used by those who perform Pilates exercises regularly. The ball helps to increase core strength and flexibility while performing various exercises in different positions on top of the ball itself. You can purchase a Pilate’s ball from most sporting goods stores as well as online retailers such as Amazon.com or eBay.com
The Pilate’s strap – This strap comes in handy when performing certain moves where one leg needs to be lifted off the ground while performing other movements with your arms.
Reformer
The reformer is one of the most common pieces of Pilates equipment. It allows you to do a variety of exercises that are similar to stretches and yoga poses but with more resistance. The reformer’s spring-loaded carriage allows you to work your body in ways that mimic everyday activities like walking up stairs or sitting down at a desk.
Wand
A Pilate’s wand is a rectangular piece of wood with handles on each end. You can use it for various exercises that strengthen your arms, legs and core muscles.
Rope
A rope is made from cotton or nylon material with loops at each end so you can hold onto it while performing certain exercises such as squats or lunges. The rope provides resistance so that you have to work harder during each movement than if you were holding an empty handout position at the same height above ground level (Brukner & Khan, 2014).
Pilates equipment includes the following:
The Reformer, a combination machine that includes a bench and springs; the Cadillac, another combination machine that includes springs; the Wunda Chair, an apparatus with a chair seat connected to elastic bands for resistance; the Barrel Chair, similar in design to the Barrel Table; and the Trapeze Table, which has two trapeze bars hanging from its ceiling for support.
A springboard is used for performing abdominal exercises such as sit-ups and back extensions. Springboards can be made out of wood or metal frames with springs attached to them. They’re typically placed on carpeted floors so they don’t slide around while you’re exercising on them.
